advertising photography for Sylvester Cancer Center featuring portrait of musician with guitar in little havana, fl

Advertising Portraits | Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center

May 15, 2017 by Sonya Revell

I’m excited to share the second leg of the advertising campaign I photographed for Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center a while back.  Talk about a dream job!  I worked with M&C Saatchi LA to produce eight portraits of talent, at various ‘unique to South Florida’ locations, which ranged all the way from Hollywood to Coral Gables.  We shot all eight portraits over two days, allowing only about two hours per location.  I really enjoyed scouting for the perfect background in each […]

Portrait of Meg Daly, founder and friend of the Underline

January 3, 2017 by Sonya Revell

Upon moving to Miami (for the first time) in 2003, I was bewildered as to how such a large city could have so few parks (and green space in general).  I would complain about this to just about anyone that would listen.  After all, the much smaller city I had come from, Louisville, KY, has a park system designed by the legendary landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted (designer of numerous city parks including, Central Park and Golden Gate Park).   13 […]

Portraits of Alan Faena for Forbes

July 8, 2016 by Sonya Revell

After an amazing work/sight-seeing trip to Europe (more on that to come) it’s time to play catch-up with my blog…. I’m really excited to share this editorial shoot with Alan Faena, at the Faena Hotel, on Miami Beach, which was commissioned by Forbes back in April.  Alan is an Argentine hotelier and real estate developer, not to mention quite the snazzy dresser.  (If you do a Google search for him, as I did in preparation for the shoot, you’ll see that […]

New Lifestyle Photography for a New Year

February 3, 2016 by Sonya Revell

I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions.  I do, however, like to kick off each new year with a portfolio shoot (which superstition dictates must be completed within the first week of January). Unfortunately here in Miami, 2016 started off with lots and lots of rain.  So while my inspiration was telling me to do a lifestyle shoot at the beach, El Niño seemed to be laughing in my face. Thankfully Laura, my styling cohort and I kept a close […]

Quiet Portraits of a Family

September 12, 2015 by Sonya Revell

I was recently commissioned to make some portraits of the Tavakolis, a terrific family with whom I’ve collaborated in the past.  I’ve always had a great experience photographing this lovely family, as they have a shared enthusiasm for the craft, an openness to ideas, and well… they’re just all-around good people. For this shoot, we met up at the Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa, where my assistant, Dragi and I set up a make-shift studio in the Tavakolis’ room. […]
